Lot of 2100 Cards 1887 – 1914

Posted by: Ed

0936frI have discovered the best collection! Unfortunately it is not for sale and is owed by the United States Government. Say what you like about the goverment, but they collect sportscards!

The Library of Congress has a collection from a cigarette card collector Benjamin Edwards. The collection was donated to the Library of Congress in 1954. It consists of such greats as Cy Young, Joe Tinker, John Evers, and Ty Cobb. The set is truely awe inspiring. You can view the cards by player, team, or year and their site is free!

“Pet Sets”

Posted by: Ed

bloomquist
Have you ever put together a set without a good reason? “Pet Sets” are the sets that just feel right or look good, not necessarily ones that will increase in value. For some reason I became obsessed with the 2000 Bowman’s Best cards a few years back.

I started with Willie Bloomquist.  He was a Seattle Mariner rookie that year. I started buying boxes until I found one and then needed to get all of the other cards to complete the master set. It was a journey that lasted about 2 years and cost way more than it should have. When all was said and done I did get a few pretty good cards.

It was the rookie year for Johan Santana and Francisco Rodriguez.

The set also came with game pieces of the bat and autographs. There were signatures from Cal Ripken, Johnny Bench, and Sean Casey. The cards were beautiful and well made. Though not a good financial investment I will be able to look at the set and remember all of the shows and shops that I visited to put together my 2000 Bowman’s Best set.

If you have a favorite set let us know! You may even be asked to join us in a segment of the podcast!

Posted by: Robert

This is a numbered to 5 limited card dedicated to the Kennedy brothers, John, Robert and Ted.

The news article from Topps states that it is a relic card but it is not clear what it is.

See the photo and more information about this card at: Topps Website.

There’s a good chance that I will be getting a box for the crackin’ it podcast from that show! Click “Card Shows” and “November 2009″ to the right for more info. They are also advertising that Bill Gadsby and Mario Lemieux will be signing!

Card Shows

Posted by: Ed

I have added a few card shows for the Seattle area for October. Do you know of any good shows? Please let us know and we would be happy to list them. Card shows are a great way to meet other collectors and occasionally get great deals! I like them for finding singles and commons to finish sets. It sure beats paying $3.00 to ship a $2.00 card! Have you been to a major show? How was it?? You can tell the whole story in the “forums” section. Please let me know if it is worth the airfare.
