“Pet Sets”
Posted by: Ed
Have you ever put together a set without a good reason? “Pet Sets” are the sets that just feel right or look good, not necessarily ones that will increase in value. For some reason I became obsessed with the 2000 Bowman’s Best cards a few years back.
I started with Willie Bloomquist. He was a Seattle Mariner rookie that year. I started buying boxes until I found one and then needed to get all of the other cards to complete the master set. It was a journey that lasted about 2 years and cost way more than it should have. When all was said and done I did get a few pretty good cards.
It was the rookie year for Johan Santana and Francisco Rodriguez.
The set also came with game pieces of the bat and autographs. There were signatures from Cal Ripken, Johnny Bench, and Sean Casey. The cards were beautiful and well made. Though not a good financial investment I will be able to look at the set and remember all of the shows and shops that I visited to put together my 2000 Bowman’s Best set.
If you have a favorite set let us know! You may even be asked to join us in a segment of the podcast!
